Excess sweating under the arms

Excessive underarm sweating (known as hyperhidrosis ) is a very common condition which for many people can cause embarrassment and social discomfort.
There are a number of different ways of managing this condition including topical therapy including antiperspirants, botulinum toxin injections and surgery.
Patients who suffer from excessive underarm sweating may now be eligible to receive a Medicare rebate for treatment with botulinum toxin.  Once injected the toxin blocks the release of a chemical that initiates the sweating.

The injections take about 10 minutes and are well tolerated. For patients who are very sensitive to discomfort there is the option for numbing cream to be applied prior to the procedure.
